Amadou Haidara, a longtime target of Newcastle United, just inked a new contract with RB Leipzig that includes a reasonable release clause.

Dominik Szoboszlai and Amadou Haidara were rumored to be on Newcastle’s radar last summer, but Szoboszlai ended up choosing Liverpool over the Magpies.

Even though Haidara desired a transfer from the Bundesliga team, he remained since the club would not let him go despite making a lot of money from the sales of Josko Gvardiol and Szoboszlai to Manchester City.

Reporter Ben Jacobs has already announced on X that Haidara has agreed to a new contract with Leipzig.

Leipzig declined to sell Haidara, therefore Newcastle moved on to other prospects.

A €30 million (£25.7 million) release clause is rumored to be part of the new agreement, but it’s unclear when it goes into effect or if it only applies to teams from specific nations.

Eddie Howe, who gave up on the 26-year-old after a protracted search last year before the Magpies moved to bring in Sandro Tonali, might be interested in it, though.

This season, Haidara has made 20 appearances for Leipzig, contributing one assist and one goal. He represented his country, Mali, at the African Cup of Nations in January.

This could be an offer too good to refuse at £26 million.

After right-back, Newcastle’s midfield is arguably the least in need of improvement. However, if a few players were to leave to make place, we might see another addition to the middle of the park this summer.Newcastle negotiated a new contract with a £26 million release clause for the midfield player they sought last summer.

It might be too good a deal for Newcastle to refuse at less than £30 million, but we do believe that when everyone is healthy (and not suspended), there may be too much competition in the midfield.

However, Eddie Howe’s inability to rotate his team this season was a major problem that you would think he would want to avoid the following season, so perhaps a little bit of overcrowding is what we need to prevent a repeat of this one.
