Lewis Dobbin will be out for a while but will not need surgery after injuring his ankle. The teenager injured ligaments in a strange accident during training at Finch Farm just before the international break. There was early concern that he would require surgery, but additional examination found that the problem was not as critical.

The 21-year-old will miss games during his recovery, but Sean Dyche said work to determine a timetable for his return is ongoing.Everton forward cleared of need for surgery following shocking training injury blow.

Dobbin was a member of Everton’s first-team squad that traveled to southern Portugal in the first week of the club’s extended break following its defeat at Manchester United. The forward, who is having a breakthrough year, scored his first senior goal for the Blues in a home league win over Chelsea, then suffered an ankle injury while returning to training in the UK.

Dyche remarked ahead of Everton’s trip to Bournemouth, where they want to halt an 11-game Premier League winless streak, that the news was better than expected. He damaged his ankle and was extremely unlucky: he tumbled down, landed on someone’s foot, and his ankle was tilted. We expected it to require surgery, but it does not, which is wonderful news, so the only question now is when he will be able to return. Idrissa Gueye and Seamus Coleman have returned to fitness for the journey to the south coast, but Arnaut Danjuma, who is making improvement, will be unavailable due to his own ankle injury.
