BREAKING NEWS: Isaiya Katoa formally announces his future plans.
Isaiya Katoa, a playmaker for the Dolphins, has officially decided on his NRL future and has re-signed with the team through the conclusion of the 2028 season.
The Dolphins’ confirmation comes after News Corp. rumors surfaced two days ago, indicating that he chose to stay at the team on a $2 million contract, effectively ruling out a move to rugby union.
The 20-year-old Katoa, who has participated in 23 games for the team, gave the St. George Illawarra Dragons in Round 2 of this season one of his greatest games.
Throughout his performance, he forced one drop-out, made 17 tackles, ran 67 meters, kicked 474.6 meters, and spearheaded the team’s offensive while he had the ball.
This weekend, when The Dolphins play their intrastate rivals the Gold Coast Titans—who will be missing their dynamic captain due to injury—he will be hoping to continue.
Although Katoa is viewed as the Dolphins’ best half, the team has not yet disclosed any information regarding the contracts of Anthony Milford and Kodi Nikorima, the other half, who are both out of contract at the end of the season.
The new deal was agreed to after Katoa stated during the previous season that he would never completely rule out moving to rugby union.
“Growing up, I played rugby union, so I wouldn’t turn down the chance to play it again. “Last season, I played my first sport,” Katoa said to The Sydney Morning Herald.
