Amadou Onana will ‘as long as he can’ join Barcelona this summer.
According to Sport, Amadou Onana has prioritised a move to Barcelona from Everton this summer and will wait “as long as he can” for the opportunity. The Spanish news outlet reports on its website (March 21) that the player’s representatives had already met with the La Liga heavyweights.
And the Belgium international is looking forward to joining the Catalan club and is willing to wait as long as possible for a deal to be completed before looking into other possibilities if it does not happen. “Onana’s entourage already knows that the Barça sports area has a very high regard for him, hence the player has the culé project as one of the priorities in case of a change of scenery,” they stated in their letter. “The midfielder is enthusiastic by the prospect of donning Barça and will wait as long as he can.
“Afterwards, if the culés do not have room for manoeuver, Amadou will begin to consider other options.” Everton’s exit for Amadou Onana appears likely. Most people linked with the Toffees believe that the summer transfer window will be active, with important decisions to be made.
One of those will be outgoings, given the club’s dire financial state and the squad’s saleable assets.
Jarrad Branthwaite is a significant target for Manchester United, and Onana is certainly wanted by some of Europe’s top, making it unlikely that both players would continue at the club.
But if one player leaves, or both go, Everton should be the ones to establish the terms of a transaction, and it must benefit them more than anybody else, regardless of the players’ inclinations. If Barcelona is unwilling to pay what the Blues consider to be an acceptable asking price, he will have to wait a long time for the move, because the player cannot be the one leading the way.
