After calling for Souths coach Jason Demetriou to be fired, Russell Crowe explains his position on his future.

Russell Crowe, a Hollywood celebrity and owner of the South Sydney Rabbitohs, has backed coach Jason Demetriou following the team’s crushing defeat to the Roosters on Friday night.

On Friday night, the Sydney Roosters gave the Souths their worst defeat under Demetriou’s leadership, destroying their opponents 48–6 and scoring eight tries to send them to the bottom of the standings.

Similar to the Rabbitohs’ opening two losses of the season, the encounter at Allianz Stadium ended with mistakes putting the team under pressure defensively and impeding their attack.

Regarding the loss, Demetriou remarked, “It’s probably the lowest point in my career right now.”

The three losses to start 2024 followed the Rabbitohs’ seven-game losing streak from the previous season, which eliminated them from finals contention even though they had led the premiership after eleven rounds.

Following the defeat, Crowe made it plain in a text message to the club’s powerbrokers that things can turn around just as quickly as they can go wrong, according to The Daily Telegraph.

Powerbrokers for Bunnies anticipate strong performance from the team over the next three weeks.

Former protégé of Wayne Bennett, Demetriou, claimed he was ‘very convinced’ he could shake the Rabbitohs’ current slump.

“It is my responsibility to lead the boys this week and ensure that we are training hard and prepared for our game against Canterbury on Good Friday,” he declared.

I’ve spent a lot of time with this bunch. I am certain that we are all in agreement and collaborating as a group since I comprehend the group.

“I’m confident that I’m the one who can make a difference, but in the end, what I say here doesn’t matter to what other people will think.”

“There is noise.” We’re losing and not playing well, which is why it’s there.

“Only if we get our training right, perform well the following week, and see some results on the board will anything change.”

The Rabbitohs were uninspired by Demetriou’s decision to move Dean Hawkins to halfback or by calling up Damien Cook to the bench.

We brought in Deano, and in my opinion, he performed admirably for us,’ stated Demetriou. After calling for Souths coach Jason Demetriou to be fired, Russell Crowe explains his position on his future.

“He’ll recover from the run, but it was a matter of trying to get the best out of him and get him running the footy again because ‘Cookie’ came into the season underdone with a calf injury.”

The coach wasn’t sure if Ilias, who Demetriou praised as “outstanding” in a 28-12 NSW Cup victory against the Roosters, would be on the first-grade team the following week.

I have no idea. Next week, we’ll make a decision after reviewing the tapes, Demetriou stated.
