Pro Bowl cornerback Shaquill Griffin Signs with the Minnesota Vikings.

Given the problems we observed at cornerback during the 2023 campaign, general manager of the Minnesota Vikings Kwesi Adofo-Mensah realized that this position needed to be a top priority in NFL free agency. On Tuesday, the head of the front office signed veteran cornerback Shaquill Griffin to fill that role.

The agreement might be worth up to $6 million for a single season, according to Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report. Of course, this won’t be the final offseason addition to the Vikings’ cornerback room. However, it’s a huge gain to add a 28-year-old veteran who still has plenty of years left in his prime and crucial starting experience.

Griffin, who was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft from Central Florida, has made 79 starts in his career. The expectation is that he will battle for playing time behind Byron Murphy at cornerback alongside players like Akayleb Evans, a 2022 fourth-round pick, and (ideally) Andrew Booth Jr.Pro Bowl cornerback Shaquill Griffin Signs with the Minnesota Vikings.

Shaquill Griffin, What the Minnesota Vikings Are Getting

Before agreeing to a lucrative contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars ahead of the 2021 season, he started 53 games in four seasons with Seattle. After Griffin was selected for the Pro Bowl by Seattle in 2019, things never worked out in Duval.

Griffin played for both the Texans and the Carolina Panthers in the previous season. He made 13 appearances, starting seven of them. When covering him, the opposing quarterback had a 60.5% completion percentage and a 72.4 quarterback rating.
