BREAKING NEWS: 49ers sign quarterback Joshua Dobbs to a one-year contract $2.25 million.
On Monday, the San Francisco 49ers signed experienced journeyman quarterback Joshua Dobbs, giving them a new backup quarterback.
According to NFL Network and ESPN, Dobbs and the Niners reached an agreement on a one-year contract worth $2.25 million, with an additional $750,000 in playing-time incentives.
After Sam Darnold left in free agency to join the Minnesota Vikings, Dobbs is predicted to be the second overall pick, behind Brock Purdy.
After an unusual season in which he was moved twice and made more starts than he had ever had in his NFL career, Dobbs, 29, is off the field.
At the conclusion of training camp, the Arizona Cardinals were still waiting on Kyler Murray to return from injury when the Cleveland Browns traded Dobbs to them. After Kirk Cousins suffered an Achilles tear, Dobbs started eight games there, finishing 1–7 before being acquired by the Vikings prior to the trade deadline.
In his first game with Minnesota, Dobbs replaced an injured Jaren Hall and led the Vikings to a thrilling 31-28 victory over the Atlanta Falcons. In the end, he started four more games, finishing 2-2.
Dobbs completed his 13 games (12 starts) with 2,464 yards of passing, 13 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. At the end of the 2022 season, he made his first two career starts with the Tennessee Titans.
