Some say Rangers should terminate a failure who earns more money than Cantwell since they have wasted £6.4 million and counting.
Under Philippe Clement, Glasgow Rangers‘ comeback has been nothing short of spectacular. Their most recent 2-2 draw in the first leg of the Europa League last-16 against Benfica demonstrated how far they have progressed since the Belgian took over.
The Light Blues would have lost the game under Michael Beale, but in recent months, the team has adopted a never-say-die attitude.
Despite having to change up their starting lineup due to Rangers’ four winger absence, Clement’s team still won in Lisbon, and they have a great chance to advance to the quarterfinals going into the second leg.
It’s amazing how this team, which was on its knees six months ago, has turned into one that has the potential to win three trophies, especially when you take into account the team the 49-year-old coach took over.
A number of players fall short of the necessary standards, and some of them—defender Ben Davies foremost among them—are paid absurdly exorbitant salaries.
Furthermore, the former center back for Liverpool is making more money than a number of well-known first team players, like Todd Cantwell.
Ben Davies’s salary at Rangers
In the summer transfer window of 2022, Giovanni van Bronckhorst signed Davies to the Light Blues for a reported £4 million in an effort to strengthen his defense in time for the next campaign.
In addition, the 28-year-old received a weekly salary of £27k, making him one of the highest paid players at the team.
Since the transfer has not gone as planned, Clement may decide to let him go this summer in order to earn money for other goals.
