Gregg Popovich delivers a biting warning to Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs following a “ass whooping.”
Victor Wembanyama performed appallingly in a loss to the Houston Rockets following two wins over the Oklahoma City Thunder and Indiana Pacers. Gregg Popovich, in response, chastised the San Antonio Spurs for their subpar play.
Wembanyama finished the game with just 10 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists, and 7 blocks in his 30 minutes on the court. Devin Vassell led the Spurs with a game-high 22 points, eight rebounds, and three assists.
As for the Rockets, they went all out against San Antonio, as evidenced by the brilliant 45-point, 16-rebound performance of Alperen Sengun. Jalen Green scored 23 points for Houston, and Fred VanVleet added 21 points and 10 assists.
The San Antonio Spurs now have the lowest record in the Western Conference at 13-49 as a result of this loss. With a 27-34 record, the Houston Rockets are currently in 12th place. In the upcoming months, neither of the teams is expected to enter the playoffs.

Due to the Spurs’ subpar performance against the Houston Rockets, head coach Gregg Popovich had a message for Wembanyama and the squad after the game. Tom Orsborn posted two tweets about X.
Pop: “That right there is what you call a royal ass whuppin’.” They are really deserving of praise. They engaged in physical play from the beginning to the finish.It covered us in dirt, we didn’t react well, and you already know the result,” Orsborn wrote.
Further “Young group needs to understand the road is a lot different than at home & it requires a little bit more mental toughness and we didn’t have that tonight,” Pop said during his 46-second press conference. Orsborn continued, “Pop was asked if Wemby was hurt before he left, but he walked off without answering.”
Popovich’s advice is interpreted as a wake-up call for the youthful Spurs team, which has a lot of promise but is still inexperienced in winning. It appears the squad needs more time to perfect its craft in order to succeed, even with a player like Wembanyama who is expected to win Rookie of the Year for the campaign.
San Antonio has a bright future ahead of them despite the loss, primarily due to Wembanyama’s performance. Undoubtedly, as the youthful youngster develops further in the upcoming years, the team will quickly regain its footing.
