According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the CHICAGO BEARS are set to sign All-Pro safety Kevin Byard to a two-year contract with a base salary of $15 million.

Kevin Byard was cut by Philadelphia last season after being dealt from the Tennessee Titans to the Philadelphia Eagles. Though he is now 30 years old and probably not at his best, he made a name for himself with the Titans as one of the top safeties in the league. Byard can still be useful, just as he was with the Eagles the previous year. But the Bears are very adaptable, and Byard provides a strong, experienced presence in the backfield.Kevin Byard and the Bears reach a $15 million deal.

Like the club as a whole, the Bears’ defense improved greatly during the season. Now that cornerback Jaylon Johnson has signed a long-term deal, the team has another weapon in the secondary. With the addition of Byard and Jaylon Johnson to the roster, the Bears will attempt to strengthen their defensive unit even if there will probably be changes on the offensive end of the ball.

In the 2018 NFL Draft, Chicago will most likely choose quarterback Caleb Williams and trade Justin Fields for the No. 1 overall pick. With all of the excitement around Caleb Williams, it is assumed that he will perform well right away, particularly if the offensive line or another receiver is added.

The Bears will be content for the time being that Byard, an experienced safety, has joined the team.
