BREAKING NEWS: Victor Wembanyama might not be back until the following week.

As a rookie, Victor Wembanyama—the first overall selection in the 2023 NBA Draft—has followed a rigid schedule when it comes to playing time. Throughout the season, the San Antonio Spurs have limited his playing time each night while also giving him occasional rests.

Thus far, the plan has shown to be effective. Wembanyama has dominated the court from both ends and hasn’t shown signs of weariness. NBA players play in seasons that are half as long as their professional careers, thus adjusting to the league’s schedule is as tough as it gets.

In his debut season, Wembanyama has not yet missed a game in a row. Unfortunately, it sounds like this weekend will be the end of that streak. Wembanyama is probably going to miss the remaining games of the Spurs’ road trip, according to ESPN’s Andrew Lopez.

Wembanyama appeared to have injured his ankle during the first half of the Tuesday game against the Houston Rockets. He was able to return and participate in almost the whole second half of that game, but San Antonio decided to keep him out of the lineup for the Thursday matchup against the Sacramento Kings.

It appears that he will also be watching Saturday night’s game against the Golden State Warriors from the sidelines. Due to Stephen Curry’s ankle injury on Thursday night, it looks like the star-studded event featuring Wembanyama and Curry may not feature both primary attractions.BREAKING NEWS: Victor Wembanyama might not be back until the following week.

Wembanyama’s return date is uncertain, but head coach Gregg Popovich is optimistic about it being brief. Before the game on Thursday night, Popovich stated, “He’ll probably miss these two games and hopefully be ready for Monday.”

In the second half of their home-and-home series, the Spurs host the Warriors on Monday. San Antonio is playing eight games at home starting with that one. Wembanyama might be benched once more as a precaution because of the back-to-back sets on Monday and Tuesday.
