NBA Rumors: Will the Golden State Warriors and the All-Star forward split up this summer?

It has been a forgettable season for the Golden State Warriors. The Warriors are starting to play better lately, but there is still a lot of uncertainty around this team’s future. The main cause for concern is Andrew Wiggins, who has significantly regressed this season and is recording the lowest stats of his career to date.

Due to a “serious family matter,” Wiggins is currently not with the Warriors; yet, there is increasing expectation that this will be Wiggins’ last season with the Warriors. Currently, speaking only of basketball, Wiggins’ previous few years at Golden State have been regrettable.

Wiggins was possibly the second-best—and most reliable—player on the Warriors when they won the NBA Championship a few years ago. Unfortunately, Wiggins has struggled with consistency over the last two years while playing a major role in the Warriors’ success. However, it appears like the 29-year-old needs a new beginning or opportunity.NBA Rumors: Will the Golden State Warriors and the All-Star forward split up this summer?

Is Andrew Wiggins in need of a scene change?

Everything seems to be pointing toward Wiggins receiving the much-needed change of scenery. It was announced shortly before the NBA Trade Deadline that the Warriors were reportedly considering Wiggins. Golden State ultimately decided against making the move, but you can’t help but wonder if they may reconsider in the offseason.

The Warriors will need to find answers to a couple other significant problems throughout the offseason in addition to Wiggins’ future. It’s interesting to note that dealing Wiggins would make it possible to include a Klay Thompson extension in their publications. The Warriors may consider that option as they explore for other ways to stretch the championship window for this core.

Wiggins might very well have a lot left in him at the age of 29. It doesn’t appear like his future with the Warriors is all that bright, at least not right now. In fact, it appears like the story is headed in a direction that makes Wiggins unlikely to play for the Warriors in 2024–2025. Should it prove to be true, Wiggins’ move might very well be imminent.
