After Adam Schefter revealed this morning that the Denver Broncos intend to dismiss safety Justin Simmons, the team is formally cleaning house. Throughout the previous several seasons, the eight-year veteran served as both the team’s face and a vital leader on Denver’s defense.

The Broncos thanked Simmons and his family in a statement they made available on Thursday.Broncos to make a safety release Simmons Justin.

With only $3.75 million in dead money, the change will release $14.5 million in salary cap. The team may decide to pursue P.J. Locke, a pending free agent, as a result of the release. Many may ask why the Broncos didn’t try to trade Simmons, but the fact that the Buffalo Bills and Philadelphia Eagles both released quality veteran safety this week shows how limited the market is for safeties.

Over the course of his eight seasons in Denver, Simmons totaled 604 tackles, 30 interceptions, and one touchdown.

This is quite a surprise, but it may indicate that Sean Payton, the head coach, intends to make some changes in 2024. If Justin Simmons wasn’t secure, we might see a number of seasoned players leave the Broncos in the next few days.
