Report: LeBron James of the Lakers is “less likely” to sign with another team.
Superstar LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers is not done setting records even after he has accumulated 40,000 points. The dirty little secret is that he’ll probably keep doing it while wearing the purple and gold jersey.
Dave McMenamin and Bobby Marks of ESPN predict that James will sign with a different team this summer.
James has earned more than $482 million in pay over his career. If he chooses to accept his $51.4 million salary, signs a new deal with the Lakers, or—a less probable possibility—signs with a another team, he will become the first player in NBA history to surpass the $500 million threshold.
The advantage is with the Lakers.
They have the highest money to offer, $164 million in opt-in and extend over three years compared to $157.5 million over three years in decline and sign with another team. In addition, they have a no-trade clause that no other team can match.
Finally, the Lakers will be able to add a third star to Anthony Davis and him by using their three first-round picks and five pick swaps.
James, 39, reiterated his dedication to the Lakers franchise at the NBA All-Star Weekend, but he also hinted at a possible departure.
James told reporters, “I am a Laker and I’m happy, and I have been very happy being a Laker the last six years.” I hope things continue like way. However, I’m not sure how long it will last or what outfit I’ll be wearing. I’m hoping it’s with the Lakers. There are many greats and it’s a great organization. However, we’ll see. I’m not sure how it will conclude, but I’m certain that it will.
LeBron James Is Expected to Seek Knicks Trade, Per Salary Cap Expert from Bleacher Report On February 27, Eric Pincus revealed that there are those in the NBA who think James would put Bronny on a team where they can play together.
Would a team select Bronny in order to entice his dad? Maybe, but how many times throughout James’ career has he acted irrationally?
James will most likely steer his son’s landing as best he can. Maybe with the Lakers, but there are rumors going around the league that it will be with the Knicks. If that’s the case, Pincus stated that James would most likely decide to accept and arrange a trade from the Lakers (perhaps bringing Julius Randle, additional money, and picks to Los Angeles).
In the days preceding the February 8 trade deadline, James fuelled rumors about a possible future move to the Knicks by stretching the Knicks towel in a postgame interview following a Lakers victory in New York and by making cryptic postings on social media.
He also admitted to reporters in New York that he had considered playing for the Knicks.
“It was one of the teams I looked at during my free agency period in 2010,” James said to reporters on February 3. “Yeah, I’ve thought that throughout my career.”
The Knicks pose a greater threat than the Warriors.
McMenamin and Marks assert that the Knicks possess a degree of flexibility that is not possessed by the Golden State Warriors, who made a move for James around the trade deadline.
If James’ $51.4 million salary forced the Warriors over the second apron, Golden State would not be permitted to send out aggregate contracts. James may choose to opt-in to his contract and then work out a trade.
But the Knicks have enough cash underneath both benches to acquire James without having to give up OG Anunoby and Jalen Brunson.
Bojan Bogdanovic, Josh Hart, Mitchell Robinson, Julius Randle, and Donte DiVincenzo are the five players from New York who make salaries ranging from $11.5 to $30.3 million. Additionally, they can add up to eight tradable first-round picks in a deal.
James is ten years older than Randle, so he will fit right into Davis’ schedule. The Lakers would be in the lead to sign any young player who becomes available to form a new, much younger Big 3 if they were to obtain the picks from the Knicks in addition to their three tradable first-round picks in the offseason.
