BREAKING NEWS: Nottingham Forest and Everton have been warned to anticipate additional point deductions and how severe they may be.

Everton and Nottingham Forest should prepare for more point deductions, according to a financial expert.

Earlier in the season, the two teams were accused of violating the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules (PSR). After an investigation, Everton was docked 10 points. Although the penalty was lowered to six points after an appeal, the Toffees are still in danger.

Stefan Borson, a former financial advisor to Manchester City, believes that depending on the result of Everton’s recent appeal, both Everton and Forest will likely lose an additional “two or three” points.

Over the course of three seasons, clubs are permitted to lose £105 million, or £35 million each season. But since Forest played in the Championship for a portion of that time, they were only allowed to lose £61 million.

Everton’s first point deduction came from a PSR violation in the 2022–2023 season. Like Forest, the Merseyside team is currently awaiting the outcome of a second inquiry into a PSR violation in the 2022–2023 season. Speaking on talkSPORT, Borson argues that both sides can anticipate an additional six points being deducted, citing Everton’s recent successful challenge as precedent. However, both penalties are probably going to be lowered upon appeal.

“I believe you can work with the assumption that there will be an additional six [points deducted] as the beginning point. You can then discount for the two years that they have already had a penalty, which brings you back to two, maybe three, or possibly one.

The majority of their arguments are unlikely to be successful because they have already been put out, so I believe the independent commission on Everton will make a fairly simple decision. Nevertheless, I still believe they will lose additional points.BREAKING NEWS: Nottingham Forest and Everton have been warned to anticipate additional point deductions and how severe they may be.

For Nottingham Forest, the formula is comparable. If I were a Forest supporter, I could be a little worried about the aggravating circumstances because it appears like they spent carelessly, which could result in them receiving a harsher sentence. The fact that they only disregarded one year of Premier League financial fair play, however, puts them farther down the scale.

“I would think that Forest are probably looking at something like two to three points, plus the potential of some aggravating factor around the recklessness of the spending, minus the potential of what the appeal commission describe as the golden mitigation which Sheffield Wednesday had when they sold their stadium which Nottingham Forest are hinting will be Brennan Johnson.”
