BREAKING NEWS: Does C.J. Stroud Have Barkley on His Team?
What’s a couple of buddies texting each other? Perhaps the key to the Houston Texans’ ability to sign Saquon Barkley and combine him with C.J. Stroud in a fantastic NFL backfield. We already know that Barkley, who is expected to be the star of the NFL free agent class of running backs this spring, followed Brevin Jordan, Nico Collins, Tank Dell, quarterback Stroud, and Devin Singletary on social media. And perhaps that is harmless.
However, a new source claims that Barkley, the No. 2 overall choice in 2018 and two-time Pro Bowler who is expected to leave the New York Giants, has ties that “go beyond him following guys on social media.”
“Saquon Barkley is a case of him communicating with top players, including C.J. Stroud, about a desire to play here,” Houston writer Aaron Wilson stated. It is reciprocal. Wilson went on to say that the Texans are “keeping their options open,” which clearly includes the decision to simply bring back current starter Singletary rather than giving Barkley a huge contract.
What then matters right now? Perhaps it has to do with Barkley particularly. More than anything, though, it might be about setting the foundation as rookie Stroud—who is undoubtedly on the verge of becoming an NFL superstar—becomes a player’s magnet. Are top free agents thinking about methods to travel to Houston? It appears that the Texans have advanced rapidly.
