In order to meet the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations, Chelsea might need to cover a “very big deficit”—even if Lewis Hall signs a long-term deal with Newcastle United.

That is the opinion of Stefan Borson, a former Manchester City financial advisor, following Hall’s initial season-long loan from Newcastle. According to “performance-related criteria,” Newcastle is required under the agreement to make the transfer permanent in the summer. Eddie Howe stated just last week that he was “sure” Hall was “very close” to initiating the move.

That being said, since the Blues’ owners have already spent more than £1 billion on new players, the proposed £28 million deal plus the sell-on clause Chelsea received in exchange for Tino Livramento’s transfer may not even come close to touching the sidelines, let alone turning a profit.

They contest that they have any need to market to anyone,” Borson said on talkSPORT. “They claim they don’t need to sell anyone because they are fully compliant with PSR for the current season. Considering the numbers, I predict that they will face a serious issue.

They barely passed 22 out of 23. Since they barely made it through 22/23, you can infer that they lost a lot of money during the three-year rolling period. Since they have no European football at all, we can be positive that they have suffered a loss when you take away that third year and begin to evaluate.

“I don’t see how they claim they don’t need to sell anyone, but let’s say they do, in some way, contend that the £12 million sell-on fee Livramento received for the sale of Mason Mount Hall to Newcastle got them where they needed to be. They have a huge shortfall to identify, and I highly doubt it. Now that it’s so late, they can hardly discover the profit.”BREAKING NEWS: If the requirements are completed, a financial advisor says Newcastle won't help Chelsea move Lewis Hall.

Since leaving Chelsea, Hall has only made four starts for Newcastle, and in three of those games, he was substituted at the half. Since entering the game as a late substitution in the 3-2 loss to Manchester City over seven weeks ago, the young player has not made an appearance.
