BREAKING NEWS: Everton’s official statement: The appeal decision on the points deduction was announced.

Everton has now received word on the outcome of their appeal against the ten-point penalty they received for violating Premier League regulations.

Their official statement, which you can view below, states that while the guilty decision is upheld, the points deduction has been reduced from 10 to six.

Possibly a very important choice, given that Everton appears to be in serious danger of losing their league position.

With only five points from their last nine Premier League games, the Blue Scousers have not won in the league in the past two and a half months.

Due to losses in the three seasons that concluded with the 2022–2023 Premier League season, Everton and Forest are both suspected of breaching the regulations, which could result in a second points deduction for them this season.

On Monday morning, the Premier League table looked like this:BREAKING NEWS: Everton's official statement: The appeal decision on the points deduction was announced.

As you can see, Everton had a game in hand and was just one point above Luton and the relegation zone.

Everton now sits in 15th place with 25 points, one goal ahead of Brentford on goal differential, after these four points were given back.

As I mentioned earlier, there are still spots at the bottom to be won, and it looks like Forest and Everton will lose points when the decisions on the period ending with the 2022–2023 season are made later in the season.

Official statement from Everton, 26 February 2024:

Everton can confirm that an Appeal Board has determined that, effective immediately, the points deduction of 10 points that was imposed in November by an independent Premier League Commission will now only be six points.

The Club is pleased that their appeal has led to a decrease in the points penalty, even though we are currently processing the Appeal Board’s ruling.

According to what we understand, the Appeal Board determined that the initial 10-point deduction was improper when compared to the benchmarks that were available and that the Club had informed the Commission about. These benchmarks included the position under the applicable EFL regulations and the 9-point deduction that the Premier League imposes in the event of insolvency.

The Appeal Board’s decision to reverse the original Commission’s conclusion that the Club did not behave in the best interests of good faith has also made the Club very happy. For the Club on appeal, that ruling and the reduction of the points deduction constituted a crucial matter of principle. Thus, the Club believes that it was right to pursue its appeal.

The Club is still completely committed to working with the Premier League on the continuing processes for the accounting period ending in June 2023, notwithstanding the Appeal Board’s judgment and the favorable outcome.

The Club has not made any additional comments at this time, but it would like to express its gratitude to all Evertonians for their unwavering support and patience during this process, as well as to our Fan Advisory Board and other fan groups. The Club is presently weighing the decision’s broader consequences.
