BREAKING NEWS:Twist: The reporter reveals a fresh £20 million update on Dan Ashworth’s transfer after hearing from Manchester United.

Dan Ashworth is being pursued by Manchester United from Newcastle United, but a recent update indicates that there is now a twist in the story.

United want Dan Ashworth.

As he revamps the way the team approaches hiring, Sir Jim Ratcliffe has made it apparent that he believes Ashworth would be a great fit as United’s new sporting director. Last week, the two came to an agreement on terms.

The Englishman has done a remarkable job at Newcastle, developing a close bond with Eddie Howe and bringing in great players, so he may be a key player in the effort to help the Red Devils win back the English Premier League.

With United’s Premier League opponents putting him on gardening leave, Ashworth has made it clear that he wants to leave the Magpies. If Newcastle wants to get him immediately, they will likely need to pay £20 million.

If not, his contract will prevent him from starting at Old Trafford for two years. In addition, a noteworthy development has emerged regarding United’s approach and subsequent pursuit of him.

Man Utd’s Dan Ashworth twist

Ashworth’s move to Old Trafford may have to wait, according to Football Insider reporter Pete O’Rourke, who claims Manchester United is unwilling to spend £20 million in compensation to bring Ashworth in.

“Sources have told Football Insider that Man United would not spend £20 million to get Dan Ashworth, the sports director of Newcastle United. Last Monday (February 14), Football Insider disclosed that Ashworth, the chief executive of Newcastle, had reached an agreement to join United and had notified the Magpies of his decision to depart.

“The two teams are now in talks as the Magpies try to profit from Ashworth. His North East contract expires in June 2026, and the Tyneside club is expected to request an initial payment of up to £20 million. Negotiations will proceed despite Man United’s refusal to accept that first fee.”BREAKING NEWS:Twist: The reporter reveals a fresh £20 million update on Dan Ashworth's transfer after hearing from Manchester United.

Given how solid Ashworth’s hiring may be going forward, United supporters are obviously disappointed to hear this update, but it is not shocking to see Newcastle standing fast and trying to squeeze as much money out of the contract as they can.

In the end, it appears like the 52-year-old might not work for the Red Devils until 2026 unless a solution between the two teams is made at a sum they can both agree upon.

Though it’s exciting that United has officially made an approach, supporters will be hoping that this is another significant step in the right direction after some disappointing years at Old Trafford, given that the team hasn’t had a proper sporting director in place for as long as rivals like Manchester City and Liverpool.
